Jammu is the
winter capital of the J & K State. Jammu is also popularly known
as the city of temples. Famous tourist places in Jammu are :
Raghunath Temple
Raghu Nath temple in situated in the city center. This temple in
Jammu is dedicated to Lord Rama. It is nucleus of a group of
temples. Being a popular temple, it is a famous tourist
destination.
Bahu Fort
Bahu Fort is more than 3,000 years old structure in Jammu, which
is situated on the left bank of River Tawi and only 5 km away
from the city centre. These days the fort is surrounded with
beautiful terraced garden, which is favourite picnic spot of the
city folks. It has waterfalls, flowers and big trees.
Katra - Mata Vaishno Devi
Mata Vaishno Devi is one of the holiest temple of Hindus and is
a popular tourist destination. Tourists visit this place not
only from India but from around the world to this famous temple.
The holy cave of Mata Vaishno Devi is at an altitude of 5200
feet and a distance of approximately 12 kilometres (7.45 miles)
from Katra. Million of pilgrims visit the temple every year and
is the second most visited religious shrine in India, after
Tirumala Venkateswara Temple. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine
Board maintains the shrine.
Srinagar
Srinagar is the capital of Jammu and Kashmir and the
largest city in the state. Srinagar is famous among tourists for
its canals, houseboats and Mughal gardens. The city itself is
quite unlike most other large Indian cities for here the
tourists feel much more in Central Asia than on the sub
continent. It's a city full of intriguing alleyways and curious
buildings. Srinagar is a sucha wonderful tourist place where
it's very easy to spend a few hours simply wandering -
particularly along the old city streets near the Jehlum river.
The city has long been a center of art and learning. Srinagar is
a unique city for tourism because of its lakes - the Dal Lake,
Nagin and Anchar. The River Jehlum also flows through a part of
the city.
